Checking the motherboard model

less than 1 minute read

True geeks are very lazy and do everything to avoid moving out from his/her basement. For example sometimes you need to check the model number of your motherboard. Instead of getting up and disassembly of the chasis or rebooting it, you can do the following:

sudo dmidecode -t 2 | egrep "(Product|Manufacturer)"

to see the information about the model number and the name of the manufacturer:

Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
Product Name: P5B SE

You can also try out lshw:

sudo lshw | egrep "Motherboard" -A 2

Output:

       description: Motherboard
       product: 20C6007BPB
       vendor: LENOVO
